Magick of Gnomengarde | Grima

My quest to make Magick of Gnomengarde something more than just another cut and dried spell list continues! Sally forth!

One of the cool things about this exercise is that I’ve learned some fun 10 dollar words in my search to name these spells. Not that I have many chances to work sternutation (an uncontrollable urge to sneeze) or gargalesis (refers to harder, laughter-inducing tickling) into my daily vocabulary. But, knowledge of such esoteric language choices is certain to make me more fun at parties, right? Right?!

The newest ten-spot I have filed into my nerd word wallet: grima

From the BBC:

You might not have heard of ‘grima’, but you have almost certainly felt it. It’s a word to describe the feeling we get when we hear the sound of fingernails on a chalkboard, or a knife scratching a plate.

Now that I know this, I see the name of villain Grima Wormtounge in an entirely new light. Well done Professor Tolkien!

As with the other spells, grima is published on dndbeyond.com. If you manage your campaign or character sheet on that platform, you can access and save this spell in your game if you like.

I’ve been having fun sharing my random D&D thoughts over at Bluesky. If you’re interested in following, I’m at @ticklecorn.bsky.social. I’ll follow back.

If you’d like to support my work, please consider checking out my supplements for Lost Mine of Phandelver and Dragon of Icespire Peak over on Dungeon Master’s Guild! All of my titles are Free/PWYW offerings.
