Magick of Gnomengarde | Sternutation

Today, we continue making the spells contained within The Magick of Gnomengarde more…Gnomish. Today’s addition is another spell of my own design listed on dndbeyond.com. So, if you use dndbeyond.com to manage your campaign or character sheet, you can access and save this spell if you like.

Next up: Sternutation, which afflicts the target with an uncontrollable urge to sneeze.

Yesterday’s addition to Magick of Gnomengarde was Grasping Garments, a spell that makes the target fight their pants, kilt, skirt, small clothes, or footwear (whichever is targeted) in any attempt at movement. Gnomes would probably find that pretty fucking funny. You can read the full article here.

If you like either of these spells, please consider either leaving a comment or rating the spell on dndbeyond.com.

  1. I like the idea of this spell, but I think the wording needs a little work!

The effect is similar to Bane, which affects three creatures, who make one saving throw when the spell is cast, and are then affected for a minute as long as concentration lasts.

I understand not just turning it into a reflavored Bane spell. If you don’t want it to be Concentration, then I think it should read something like “Whenever the target attempts to make an attack roll or ability check, it must first succeed on a constitution saving throw. On a failure, the target rolls a d4 and subtracts the result from their attack roll or skill check.” That way it doesn’t necessarily go off each turn, but persists for a minute.

I do feel like it’d be most likely to actually be concentration if it were a “real” spell, but then the effect would probably be continuous and then it’d just turn into Bane.

As it is now, I’d be confused when to roll (“for the duration”?). Maybe this was already how you intended it, but I think the wording was slightly off.

That said: I love the idea of adding these Gnomish spells!

    1. A very late, but very sincere thank you for this feedback. I absolutely agree with your recommendation!
