A wayfarer’s knowledge of Phandalin and its hinterlands would likely be sourced from word of mouth, travelers gossip, campfire stories, and old maps. The Wayfarer’s knowledge comes from years of wandering and listening to the tales of others. They gather fragments of history through their journeys, and their perspective is shaped by the experiences and rumors they hear from fellow travellers, merchants, and locals in each town they visit.

Intelligence (History) – Wayfarer Background (Phandalin Lore)

DCDifficultyWhat the Wayfarer Might Recall
10EasyPhandalin is a small town, strategically located between larger cities like Neverwinter and Waterdeep. As someone who’s traveled the land, you’ve heard stories about Phandalin’s recent resettlement boom as a mining town. You’ve also heard the town struggles with bandits and local lawlessness.
15MediumYou know that Phandalin was abandoned for a time, but rumors of untapped veins of precious metals and riches from a long-lost mine of some historical importance has recently lured fortune seekers back to the area.
20HardYou’ve met travelers who spoke of the infamous Wave Echo Cave, a wondrous mine said to be the location of a magical forge in centuries past. Rumors speak of old maps and treasures tied to the cave, but no one has managed to uncover all of its secrets.
25Very HardYou once shared a campfire with a hermit by the name of Reidoth. When asked about Wave Echo Cave, the old man named this magical forge the “Forge of Spells.” He was of the opinion that such a device remain lost in the mists of time, in order to keep its arcane power out of the hands of those who would do harm with it.
