If you’ve read a bit of me blog, you know I style myself as the patron saint of seldom used rules and mechanics. Deities and trinkets don’t qualify as either, but I enjoy finding ways to work these oft overlooked elements into a game nonetheless.
So let’s find a way to blend both, as well as work the Place of the Unicorn into the mix while we’re at it (since it was inexplicably left off the Sword Coast map for both Lost Mine of Phandelver and Dragon of Icespire Peak).
A Crystal That Faintly Glows In Moonlight
This crystal was once a trinket of the Goddess Lurue, gifted to the elves of Illefarn many millennia ago (though knowledge of its origin and purpose has passed into time unremembered).
This crystal glows faintly in moonlight. However, beneath the full moon it blazes brightly when pointed in the direction of the Lost Hills (located north east of Leilon), serving as a sextant capable of leading its bearer to the Place of the Unicorn.
Place of the Unicorn. Among the Lost Hills beneath a stand of blueleaf trees surrounding a meadow is a sacred grove known to only a few as the Place of the Unicorn.
Anyone resting within the grove is said to be magically cured of the effects of disease, poison, madness, and curses. Unicorns visit the grove to be healed of any physical trauma.
The avatar of Lurue has also been known to visit the grove on occasion.
I’ve been having fun sharing my random D&D thoughts over at Bluesky. If you’re interested in following, I’m at @ticklecorn.bsky.social. I’ll follow back.
