In case you weren’t aware, New Year’s in the Forgotten Realms is called New Year’s Revel. It’s an annual celebration to commemorate the arrival of the New Year according to the Calendar of Harptos. It’s celebrated across Faerûn in different ways, depending on local traditions.
Regionally, the Sword Coast is local to Waterdeep. And since so many of Phandalin’s residents are from the City of Splendors, it’s assumed Phandalinians will be celebrating the New Year in the way the Waterdhavians do, by taking the day off from work in order to stay home and sip on ciders and broths – which sounds like the worst holiday ever. WTF, Waterdeep?
I hope the reason they spend this holiday at home sipping on apple juice and vegetable broth is because everyone needs to recover from getting so lit up the night before. I’m talking black out drunk that starts with streaking down the miner’s trail and ends with humping a Hat of Wizardry in the caves of Gnomengarde.
Anyway, I hope you all have a fun and safe New Year’s Eve tonight!
Or at least try to have a better New Years Eve than poor ol’ Toblen is having right now. Someone get this man some broth!
Toblen Stonehill was near unconscious when the door to his common room flew open with a crash.
“You there,” came a loud voice of command from the doorway. “Unhand that man. Now.”
There was a twitch in the hand at his throat, and then he was free. The innkeeper gulped for air in heaving gasps.
“There’s enough air in Phandalin for all of us to breathe, lads,” chided the voice. “No need to keep it all for yourselves.”
The common room went quiet, save for the crackle of the hearth fire, the rain lashing against the windows, and the innkeeper’s ragged, laboring breaths.
Weak from the lack of air, Toblen could do little more than roll onto his side and gape up at the cowled man in his doorway as the ruffians drew their blades.
