Because of its history, if you’re going to add a werewolf to your telling of Lost Mine of Phandelver, Conyberry is a good place to do that. Since I like to bake elements of my favorite works of literature, cinema, and television into my adventures, I think I’ll use the character Newt from the film Aliens as my template for a juvenile werewolf.
Cautiously eyeing anyone who approaches the village, a feral-looking girl in a ragged and stained rough spun dress lingers at the edge of the Neverwinter Wood where it presses close to Conyberry.
The young girl is currently in humanoid form, concealing her true nature. She is lost, confused, and traumatized after her lycanthropy emerged for the first time at the appearance of the most recent full moon. When the characters encounter her, she has regressed to the point of being non-verbal and wolfish.
A successful DC 10 Intelligence (Medicine) check reveals the girl is half-starved. Due to her mental state, a successful DC 15 Charisma (Persuasion) check is necessary to get the girl to cooperate with any request (the check can be made with advantage if the girl is offered food, which she consumes ravenously). However, if the check fails by 5 or more, the distrustful girl involuntarily transforms into a juvenile werewolf and attacks the character who made the failed attempt.
Savage but fearful, the young werewolf will flee if she takes any amount of damage.
