Garaele’s Stories: Banshees

Conyberry itself is not haunted, but the mere presence of Agatha the Banshee in the adjacent Neverwinter Wood can make it seem so. Many a traveler passing through the ruined town has heard a distant, forlorn wail echoing from the darkened forest encroaching upon the borders of the town. Especially at night.

Sister Garaele was one such a traveler in years past. Unlike others who tell tales of the strange noise they’ve heard coming from the nearby woods, Garaele knows its source. A banshee:

“Years ago on a journey to Triboar, a sudden storm forced our traveling party to shelter in Conyberry for the evening, an abandoned and forgotten place that wasn’t so different from Phandalin once upon a time. The terrifying cries that came out of the nearby woods that night would be enough to stop your precious little hearts, children. They would, in fact, stop your hearts if you stood close enough to the spirit who made them. Some say that in life, she was a beautiful elven maiden named Auglatha. But in death, this woeful spirit is known to the faithful as a banshee.”
