The Ghost Of Conyberry

If you’re running Lost Mine of Phandelver, and the bookish character in the party has a scholar pack slung over their shoulder, don’t sleep on the contents of the pack:

Scholar’s Pack (40 gp). Includes a backpack, a book of lore, a bottle of ink, an ink pen, 10 sheets of parchment, a little bag of sand, and a small knife.

If the player will allow for a suggestion for what the book of lore should be, recommend a vintage copy of The Ghost of Conyberry, with the suggestion that they cozy up with the scuffed and stained book during occasional short and long rests around the campfire or over some mulled cider in the common room of the Stonehill Inn.

If the player obliges, there’s an opportunity for the Dungeon Master to reward the character with knowledge gleaned from The Ghost of Conyberry without necessitating Intelligence (History) checks for knowledge about Agatha when Sister Garaele sends the party to Conyberry on her errand for the Harpers.

An extremely generous Dungeon Master might even consider allowing the character to possess any knowledge contained in the banshee entry of the Monster Manual, also without necessitating Intelligence (Religion) checks, if the DM decides that the book is not only a historical account of Agatha’s relationship to the residents of Conyberry, but an academic study of this particular form of undead remnant as well.
