A young Waterdhavian dandy inspired by the idealized adventures of Volothamp Geddarm in Volo’s Guide to Monsters, Lord Eric Merryweather aspires to become a famous adventurer himself. Unfortunately, his confidence far exceeds his experience, and he recklessly ventures into the Crooked Forest with little understanding of how dangerous adventuring truly is.
Initially overconfident and naïve, Merryweather proves genuinely grateful and surprisingly humble if rescued from his disastrous expedition into the Crooked Forest, the opening quest of In Volo’s Wake. Unless the characters treat him antagonistically, the young lord remains friendly and eager to impress them.
Despite his inexperience, Merryweather sincerely wants to become the sort of heroic adventurer celebrated in Volo’s tales. He is a trained swordsman and offers his companionship if the characters are willing to include him in their party. He uses the Noble stat block.
His gratitude also creates opportunities for the characters to gain the favor of the lordling’s influential Waterdhavian noble family, potentially earning them powerful patrons in The City of Splendors.
