From The High Road To The Long Road

If you’re going to spend an hour or two each day writing about life along the Triboar Trail (as I do), then I suppose it’s helpful to have a definitive answer for how long it takes to travel between the High Road and the Long Road.

Thanks to this wonderful tool at AideDD.org, I was able to figure out that traversing the Triboar Trail on foot at a normal travel pace takes approximately 7 days.

For those hoofing it at a fast travel pace, the journey boils down to 5.5 days. However, with the party traveling at a fast pace, characters take a –5 penalty to their passive Wisdom (Perception) scores to notice hidden threats.

In other words, there is no such thing as “stealthing” along the Triboar Trail at a fast or even a normal travel pace. Characters who insist upon searching for threats behind every blade of grass along the journey must do so at a slow travel pace, extending their travel time to 9.5 days.

An ounce of caution, it would seem, has the potential to subject the party to more random combat encounters. Funny how that works. I suppose there’s such a thing as playing things too safe.
